We’re building a team of contributors in Melbourne and across Australia. Expressions of interest are open now.
The Dosage is an independent newsroom connecting Colombo to Melbourne, covering news, politics, business, health, tech, entertainment and sport. We’re looking for freelancers who know their communities, wherever they are, and want to tell those stories well. Melbourne is our base, but you can work with us from anywhere in Australia.
Who we’re looking for
- News reporters and writers for Melbourne, Sri Lanka, politics, business, health, tech, entertainment and sport.
- Photographers for portraits, events and food.
- Video makers for short films and vertical video for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
- Sinhala and Tamil writers or translators to help us reach more readers in their own language.
You don’t need years of experience. You do need to be curious, careful with facts and reliable with deadlines. Students and early-career creatives are welcome to apply.
What we offer

- Editing and feedback from our editor on every story.
- Work that’s published under the Australian Press Council’s Standards of Practice.
What we ask
- You live in Australia and have the right to work here. Most work can be done remotely; some shoots are in Melbourne.
- You follow our editorial standards: check every fact, credit every source, and never copy other people’s work.
- You tell us about any conflicts of interest, such as PR work for a company or group you might cover.

- Your name and where you’re based (suburb or city).
- The role or roles you’re interested in.
- Two or three links to your work (articles, photos, videos or social posts).
- The languages you speak or write.
- One story idea for our readers, in two or three sentences.
We read every application and will contact people whose work fits what we need. There are no staff jobs open right now; when there are, we’ll list them here.
