All 20 free Women's Health Clinics now open, with Heidelberg the last
The Heidelberg clinic, run by Austin Health and Mercy Hospital for Women, completes Victoria's statewide network of free Women's Health Clinics.
All 20 of Victoria's free Women's Health Clinics are now open, with the Heidelberg clinic in Melbourne's north-east the last in the statewide network, the Victorian Government says.
Minister for Health Ingrid Stitt officially opened the Heidelberg Women's Health Clinic on Friday 23 October.
According to the release, more than 17,500 women have already accessed free specialist care across the network since the clinics began rolling out.
The Heidelberg clinic
The Heidelberg clinic brings together Austin Health and Mercy Hospital for Women to provide coordinated specialist care for women across Melbourne's north-east.
- Austin Health will provide contraception and abortion care.
- Mercy Hospital for Women will support women living with persistent pelvic pain and endometriosis.
Care is delivered by a team of gynaecologists, specialist nurses and allied health professionals.
What the clinics help with
Women can get help for a range of concerns and conditions under the one roof, including:
- endometriosis
- pelvic pain
- heavy and painful periods
- menopause
- incontinence
- contraception and abortion care.
The government says the clinics aim to help women who have put up with pain, struggled to find answers or put off seeing a specialist because of the cost.
Where the clinics are
The final clinics to open include locations in Ararat, Bacchus Marsh and Sandringham, as well as Heidelberg.
The 20 clinics are part of the government's $153 million women's health package, which it says delivers on recommendations from Victoria's Inquiry into Women's Pain. The inquiry heard from 13,000 women who said they frequently felt unheard or had their pain dismissed.
