Melbourne Fashion Week takes over City Square this Saturday, and it’s free to stand and watch
Two outdoor runways on Saturday 24 October, a ticketed closing show on Sunday, and more than 100 events across the city this week.
For one week, the City of Melbourne wants the whole city to feel like a catwalk. Melbourne Fashion Week runs until Sunday 25 October, with runway shows, exhibitions, workshops and talks, and the City of Melbourne says there are more than 100 events in the program.
The easiest way in costs nothing. On Saturday, City Square, on the corner of Swanston and Collins streets, becomes an outdoor runway.
Saturday 24 October, City Square
- 2pm to 2:30pm, Runway 1: Street Style. Looks inspired by Melbourne’s skaters, creatives, commuters and buskers, from labels including búl, Clothing The Gaps, ELK the Label, gammin threads, gorman, HoMie, Kuwaii and Salomon.
- 4pm to 4:30pm, Runway 2: After Hours. Featuring Anna Thomas, Foemina, Godwin Charli, Knickerbocker, Mr. Cuff, NGALI, Scotch & Soda and TOJHÀ, among others.
Seated tickets for both shows have sold out, but standing room is free and you don’t need to book. Come early for a good spot.
Sunday 25 October: the closing show
Wear The Moment, the closing runway, mixes fashion with live performance and music at 1 Hotel Melbourne in Docklands. There are two sessions, at 6pm and 8:30pm, with tickets from $79 to $299.
Why go
Much of the line-up is small local labels you won’t see in a shopping centre. A free Saturday afternoon in the city is an easy way to discover them, and to see what Melbourne will be wearing this summer.
