Smart glasses to be banned in every Victorian school from 2027
From term 1, phones, smart glasses and other personal devices must be switched off and stored. Here’s what it means for students, parents and volunteers.

Smart glasses will join phones on the list of devices banned during the school day at every Victorian school from the start of 2027, under new rules announced on Wednesday.
What changes for students
From term 1, 2027, students at government, Catholic and independent schools must keep phones, smart glasses and other personal electronic devices switched off and stored during school hours and school activities.

What changes for adults
In government schools, teachers, parents and volunteers will not be allowed to wear smart glasses or other covert filming devices on school grounds, or on school-organised activities such as camps and excursions. This applies at all times, not just during school hours, and to government school students as well.

The one exception
Smart glasses are allowed only as a reasonable adjustment for a person with disability, when no other suitable adjustment can be provided.

Why it matters to you
If your child has smart glasses, they will need to be switched off and stored during school hours and school activities from term 1, 2027.
If you are a parent or volunteer at a government school, you won’t be able to wear smart glasses on school grounds, camps or excursions at any time.
